National Hockey League Action!

Hi everyone! As much as I’ve enjoyed taking in the 2026 World Cup, I do indeed miss the drama and fast-paced action of the NHL. Luckily for me, and for you as well, I’m sure, there are plenty of games and highlight packages on YouTube. Whether you are a fan of the modern-day game, of the high-scoring 1980s, or the rough-and-tumble 1970s, there is something out there for everyone. In my case, I’ve been taking in lots of Montreal Canadiens games from the latter two eras, but also a fair amount of Colorado Rockies contests, of which there are a surprising quantity available. The picture and sound quality are not always great, and you may find your eyes getting a little sore from all the squinting you need to do to take in the clips, but they are indeed fun to watch while partaking in a nice cold late-evening beer. One of the highlight packages I’ve watched this week was brought to my attention by long-time Seals fan Pete Manzolillo (Thanks for this, Pete!). I don’t know much about this particular highlight package’s origins (maybe some of you can fill me in), but it seems that there was once a TV show called National Hockey League Action that featured the high points of certain key games during the 1971-72 and 1972-73 seasons. One season was narrated by Marv Albert, the other by former Seals employee Tim Ryan. These highlights are a real treat, fast-paced, and with some very interesting 1970s-era music which I cannot even begin to describe. The reason I’m bringing all this up is that the Golden Seals feature prominently in a few of these clips, so if you’re looking for some amazing Seals highlights, check out this link. If you want to skip directly to the Seals stuff, go to 15:12 (Seals vs. Blues), 33:50 (Seals vs. Islanders), and 47:00 (Seals vs. Kings), but I urge you to watch the whole video; it’s a beauty. There’s also a second compilation here which may be of interest to some of you, although no Seals highlights.

The last few days I’ve been concentrating on doing more promotion for Mucking in the Corners, so keep checking out my Instagram page for quick stories that will be featured in the book. I’m also preparing some new articles where I will dish out some advice to anyone curious about how to get a book published, so when these are ready I’ll post links to this web page. Feel free to ask your own questions via email and if the subject is something I feel comfortable with to the point where I may be able to help, I’ll post something on that as well.

Until next time, stay gold!
