Over the years, we’ve presented some awfully confusing hockey cards. Some of the more memorable ones that immediately come to mind are the classic Mike Grier “pizza couch” card, but there’s also Gordie Walker, superhero, Mike Ricci, 5-year-old lawn care specialist/golf enthusiast, and Jarno Peltonen, the “Blue Angel”.
This week’s cardboard crap is almost as confusing, both visually and literally, and it really explains why proofreading is oh so important. Here we’ve got Tom Edur in a Pittsburgh Penguins uniform, yet it says he is “Now with Blues” while at the same time “Retired from active playing”. Try to wrap your head around that one, my friend. At least they got his defense position right.
Too bad the guy retired. He was just coming off an impressive 55-point season, which he accomplished 58 games with Pittsburgh and another 20 games with Colorado. He even got a few votes for the end-of-season All-Star team. I couldn’t find any information explaining why Edur retired at just 23 years old, but I’m definitely intrigued. Even though he was drafted a year later by the Edmonton Oilers in the next expansion draft, he still turned down an opportunity to play alongside Wayne Gretzky. Edur later became a full-time brother of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
