I don’t know how they design hockey cards in the Czech Republic, but in North America, this is one awful photo. Jozef Stumpel was a pretty good player in his heyday, and was just coming off a 50-assist season with Boston, yet THIS is how his home country chose to celebrate him as one of its “World Stars”: mouth agape, nose pressed up against against the glass, awkwardly pained expression on his mug. What better way to honour one of the Czech Republic’s greatest athletes? I think if we look hard enough we might actually see his brain through his flaming nostrils.

Over the course of 16 years, Jozef amassed an impressive 196 goals and 481 assists in 957 games with Boston, Los Angeles, and Florida.

I don’t know much about this set except that it seems as though this company called Stadion put together a set of cards commemorating some of the country’s greatest athletes. Make no mistake, there are a LOT of Czech hockey players in this set, perhaps every single Czech hockey player to ever lace on a pair of skates. The set also contains a who’s who of soccer all-stars from countries all around the world as well as other players such as… Sandy McCarthy and Bates Battaglia? Huh? As you go down the list of players in this set you get the impression the people who put this thing together kinda lost focus at some point and just started throwing random athletes among the stars, unike the ones Jozef Stumpel saw as this card photo was snapped.
