Well now, isn’t this a lovely shot? Looks like Bambi may have found himself a kindred spirit in the Windsor Spitfire’s Kevin MacKay. Poor dude looks he’s just stepped on for the first time… ever. And he doesn’t have a skunk and chipmunk to give him any pointers. Coaches really should be held responsible for this fiasco, in my opinion. Kevin’s stick is pointed up in the air, his feet are about four feet apart, his left hand is apparently looking for someone else’s to grab on to, and his helmet is just slightly askew. He also has this great “Whoa, s#!t” expression on his face, maybe because he seems to be skating crotch-first into some random stick.

I’m guessing this picture is an anomaly since Kevin enjoyed a pretty decent junior career, scoring a career-high 95 points in 64 games the year this photo was taken. The year before he scored a career-best 38 goals. He average well over a point per game in his three seasons in Windsor, but sadly never got drafted by a NHL team. He spent a few years in the Sunshine Hockey League (your guess is as good as mine on that one), and then spent a year at Laurentian University before playing a final 17 games in the Western Professional Hockey League, but we’ll always remember Kevin for having warmed our hearts by reminding us of our first days skating on ice.
