What better way to celebrate Golden Seals Hockey’s one-year anniversary by featuring a card of the franchise’s greatest all-time player, Gilles Meloche.  As you can see, Meloche is wearing the colours of the Minnesota North Stars, the franchise with which the Cleveland Barons merged in 1978.  This is a weird card for a couple reasons.  One is the fact it looks like Meloche is wearing some sort of muumuu.  The other reason is that this photo was obviously taken during the pre-game skate, in which players warm up their goalie with practice shots.  That being said, why is the player (I think it’s Bob Stewart) in the background wearing a different colour jersey than Meloche?  Shouldn’t Stewart also be wearing Minnesota green?  It may shock you to know that Meloche is not really wearing a Minnesota uniform and that it is actually airbrushed over top of his Cleveland Barons jersey.  Like we’ve seen numerous times in the past year, Meloche and Stewart were both playing for the same team, but because they changed teams after the photo was taken, O-Pee-Chee’s preschoolers broke out the Crayolas and drew a Minnesota uniform on the player most prominently featured on the card.  The other thing I don’t get is that O-Pee-Chee could have at least tried to make it look like a real game situation where one team is wearing white and the other is wearing colours, but no, here it looks not only like opponents are warming up together, but they are also both wearing road uniforms.  So where is this game taking place?  Your guess is as good as mine.

Thanks everyone for all your support over the last year!  The second year promises to be a big one, so keep coming back!
